Hampta Pass, located at an altitude of 14,100 ft in Himachal Pradesh, is one of the most dramatic and breathtaking crossover treks in the Himalayas. The trail connects the lush green valleys of Kullu with the stark, arid landscapes of Lahaul and Spiti. Known for its ever-changing scenery, the trek offers everything — dense forests, alpine meadows, glacial valleys, rivers, and vast expanses of barren mountains. This rare diversity makes Hampta Pass a paradise for trekkers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts.

Hampta Pass Chandratal trek is quite interesting and moderately challenging in stages with the difficulty of the pass being governed by weather conditions. You will be required to cross the reasonably high Hampta pass (4300m), do a few river crossings, camp in complete wilderness and walk long stretches on certain days. The trek to Hampta pass offers unmatched variety & excitement all along the trail to take care of any exhaustion that might set in.

Itinerary

The journey begins from Sabarmati (BG) as you board the 3AC train to Chandigarh, in the morning. This marks the start of the exciting expedition ahead.

Upon arrival in Chandigarh in the morning, the group boards an AC Tempo traveller for the onward journey to Manali. Arrival at Manali is expected around 19:30, followed by tent allotment and rest.

After a short briefing, drive through scenic pine forests to Jobri Roadhead and begin a gentle trek to Jobra campsite. Acclimatize to the altitude and unwind beside the beautiful Rani Nallah stream. Overnight stay in alpine tents under a starlit Himalayan sky.

Follow a beautiful forest trail through maple and birch trees that opens into wide flower-filled meadows. Watch local shepherds grazing their flocks against the dramatic Dhauladhar backdrop. Arrive at the Jwara campsite, a flat grassy basin beside a glacial stream and enjoy hot tea and dinner by the campfire.

Trek upstream along the Rani River through a broad valley, crossing small snow patches en route. As you approach Balu Ka Ghera—“the Sandy Plain”—the terrain shifts to rugged moraines. Enjoy a stunning sunset and attend an evening briefing for the next day's high-altitude crossing.

After breakfast, begin your descent from Moridugh to Kulang village, retracing the scenic route from the first day. The downhill trek takes approximately 3 hours, offering one last chance to soak in the lush forests and mountain views. Upon reaching Kulang village, a vehicle will be ready to drive you back to Manali, marking the end of an unforgettable adventure filled with stunning landscapes and cherished memories. Check in at the hotel and rest.

Descend through rocky terrain, crossing small streams to reach Chhatru at the confluence of the Hampta and Spiti valleys. The landscape shifts dramatically to barren ridges and rugged peaks. Relax at the campsite, sip evening tea, and enjoy a farewell campfire with fellow trekkers.
